Parks: Bryant Park is a public park in the City of New York and also a New York City Scenic Landmark, which offers gardens, promenades and the famous “le carrousel”. The park also has areas for chess, backgammon, and ping-pong games. Central Park is one of the most famous public parks in the world, located in the center of Manhattan in New York City. The park first opened in 1857, on 843 acres of city-owned land. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1963, and is currently managed by the Central Park Conservancy under contract with the city government. Madison Square is formed by the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Broadway at 23rd Street in the New York City borough of Manhattan. The square was named for James Madison, the fourth President of the United States and the principal author of the United States Constitution. Madison Square Park is located within Madison Square. Other wonderful public parks to enjoy in the New York City area include: Hudson River Park, High Line Park, Battery Park, and City Hall Park
Airports: Newark Liberty International Airport is an international airport within the city limits of both Newark and Elizabeth, New Jersey, but is entirely owned by the city of Newark. It is about 15 miles southwest of Midtown Manhattan in New York City. La Guardia Airport is located in the northern part of Queens County on Long Island in the City of New York. The airport is located on the waterfront of Flushing Bay and Bowery Bay, and borders the neighborhoods of Astoria, Jackson Heights and East Elmhurst. JFK Airport is also located conveniently nearby. For traveling by train, New York Penn Station is the major intercity train station and a major commuter rail hub in New York City. It is one of the busiest rail stations in the world, and a hub for inbound and outbound railroad traffic in New York City. Also nearby, Grand Central Terminal, often incorrectly called Grand Central Station, or shortened to simply Grand Central, is a terminal station at 42nd Street and Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan in New York City. It was built by and named for the New York Central Railroad in the heyday of American long-distance passenger trains, and is the largest train station in the world based on number of platforms: 44, with 67 tracks along them.
Elementary Schools: Yung Wing Elementary School is a public school that serves grades PK-5 in the New York City Department of Education district. It is among the few public schools in New York to receive a distinguished GreatSchools Rating of 9 out of 10. On February 2, 2010, the Archdiocese of New York announced that St. James School would be merged with nearby Saint Joseph School, resulting in the St. James - St. Joseph Elementary School. St. James School was a Catholic elementary school located at 37 St. James Place in New York City across from St. James' Church in New York City. The new, merged school is located in the current Saint Joseph School building at 1 Monroe Street beginning September 2010.
Middle Schools: Tompkins Square Middle School (TSMS) serves a diverse community of 370 students in grades six through eight in NYC's East Village. TSMS is a community with high learning standards dedicated to fostering ethical, caring, self-reflecting and critical thinkers. Other great schools to consider for your children in the New York City area include: Greenwich Village Middle School, Connelly Middle School of the Holy Child, and Dr Sun Yat Sen Middle School.
High Schools: School of the Future High School is a public secondary school located at 127 East 22nd Street on the corner of Lexington Avenue, in the Gramercy Park neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. It serves grades 6 through 12 and is a part of the New York City Department of Education. It draws students from all over the city and was built with funding from Apple. Stuyvesant High School is a New York City public high school that specializes in mathematics and science. The school opened in 1904 on Manhattan's East Side and moved to a new building in Battery Park City in 1992. Stuyvesant is noted for its strong academic programs, having produced many notable alumni including four Nobel laureates. “U.S. News & World Report” ranked it thirty-first in their 2009 list of America's best "Gold-Medal" public high schools. Other high schools in the New York City area include: Millennium High School, Xavier High School, Pace University High School, and Harvey Milk High School.
Colleges/Universities: The New York Academy of Art, also known as the Graduate School of Figurative Art, is an American private, not-for-profit art university, located in the Manhattan borough of New York City, New York. Pace University is a comprehensive, independent university with campuses in New York City and Westchester County. Cornell University is an Ivy League university located in Ithaca, New York. It is a private land-grant university, receiving annual funding from the State of New York for certain educational missions. Other colleges and universities in the New York City area include: Cambridge University, Rockefeller University,Berkeley College, Kings College, and the Tribeca Performing Arts Center.
Restaurants: There is no shortage of amazing restaurants to try in the New York City area. Delmonico's Restaurant is the name of a series of restaurants of varying duration, quality, and fame located in New York City. The original and most famous was operated by the Delmonico family during the 19th and early 20th centuries, closing due to a Prohibition-era slowdown in 1923. Since that time, restaurants using the Delmonico's name have reopened in historic locations in lower Manhattan under different proprietors. Landmarc (Tribeca) has become a neighborhood favorite, serving contemporary bistro fare that blends French and Italian favorites in a decidedly cool space worthy of its cutting-edge Tribeca setting. Bridge Cafe is the oldest surviving tavern in New York and was at one time, home to a brothel. The Bridge Café is known for serving some of the best soft shell crabs and rib eye steak in New York. 11 Madison Park expresses the spirit of grand New York dining with executive chef Daniel Humm's masterfully prepared pure, market-driven cuisine. Other delectable dining locations in New York City include: Lombardi's Pizza, Nobu Next Door, Joe's Shanghai Restaurant, and Bubby's Restaurant Bar-Bakery.
Shopping: Fabulous shopping destinations abound in New York City. South Street Seaport is Lower Manhattan’s east-side shopping destination that offers a distinct mix of shops, restaurants, and cafes, as well as retail for everyday living. Rockefeller Plaza is the city’s ultimate shopping destination. From spacious flagships to unique specialty stores, there is something there for every taste and style, The plaza also offers a wonderful destination to grab a quick bite, get your cappuccino fix, meet friends for cocktails or enjoy a special family dinner. Other fine shopping destinations in the New York City area include: Shops At Columbus Circle Management, Manhattan Mall Shopping Center, and New 42 Street, Inc.
Sports Venues: MetLife Stadium is the new football stadium at the Meadowlands Sports Complex. It primarily serves as the home stadium for the New York Giants and New York Jets football teams of the NFL, and is the only facility which serves as home to two NFL franchises. The Jets' and Giants' previous home, Giants Stadium, was closed and demolished in 2010. In 2014, MetLife Stadium will host Super Bowl XLVIII. The Meadowlands Sports Complex is now New Jersey's premiere concert venue. Madison Square Garden is the “World's Most Famous Arena” in the heart of New York City and home to the New York Knicks and the New York Rangers. Yankee Stadium is the famous home to the New York Yankees.
Museums: Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, often referred to as "The Guggenheim", is a well-known museum located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City. It is the permanent home to a renowned collection of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, early Modern, and contemporary art and also features special exhibitions throughout the year. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, it is one of the 20th century's most important architectural landmarks. Whitney Museum of American Art, often referred to simply as "the Whitney", is an art museum with a focus on 20th- and 21st-century American art. The American Museum of Natural History is an institution for scientific research and education, with collections of more than 32 million specimens and artifacts. Other famous museums in the New York City area include: the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Jewish Museum, Museum of Modern Art, American Indian Museum, and the New Museum.
Entertainment: Catch a flick at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square 13. The Mayo Center for the Performing Arts venue offers a variety of musical concerts, comedians, and dance performances. Radio City Music Hall is an entertainment venue located in New York City's Rockefeller Center. Its nickname is the “Showplace of the Nation”, and it was, for a time, the leading tourist destination in the city. Its interior was declared a city landmark in 1978. Apollo Theater in New York City is one of the most famous music halls in the United States, and the most famous club associated almost exclusively with Black performers. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and was the home of “Showtime at the Apollo”, a nationally syndicated television variety show consisting of new talent. Other entertainment destinations to enjoy in the New York City area include: the White Plains Performing Arts Center, and Beacon Theater.
